Whale Watchers Dream Tour (July-August)

Lazy Bear Lodge™ of Churchill Manitoba - Polar Bear Capital of the World

Reserve Now!

The Whale Watching Dream Tour is available anytime during July and August.

  • Summer at the Lazy Bear Lodge is the time to enjoy our Beluga Whale population, the Northern Lights, birds, wild flowers, arctic hare, arctic foxes and more.
  • In order to stay at our exclusive log cabin lodge you need to reserve directly with the Lazy Bear Lodge. Our one-of-a-kind facility will send you back in history. Imagine the early arctic explorers who traded with the local native people. A place where weary travelers could find a welcoming place to rest and share stories and experiences. Enjoy your evenings, eat the local food and meet people from far away. Like before, like now.
  • Historic Cape Merry - Named after the 1712-1718 Deputy Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company, John Merry, Cape Merry is bounded by the Churchill River and the Hudson Bay. It has a wealth of history as well as natural beauty you won't want to miss.
  • Polar Bear Jail - One way the citizens of Churchill care for their Polar Bear friends is to actually put them in "jail". When someone spots a Polar bear too close to town, they call a special phone number, and the bear is humanely trapped and placed in the Polar Bear Jail until he (or she) can be safely transported back to the wild. You'll see the jail first hand and learn about its amazing history as part of the tour.
  • Prince of Wales Fort - The first stones for the fort were laid on June 3, 1732. It took over 40 years to complete, mostly because workers spent more time trying to survive in the harsh surroundings than they did working on the structure. It was primarily used for defensive purposes, and Hudson's Bay Company employees. Reconstruction took place in the 1930's, and the fort stands today as a memorial to the rivalry between the French and the English for control of the Hudson Bay and its resources.
